Open Letter to My Sweetie ;'-(
Dear Jess,
I can't believe it's been one full year since you left us. I don't think I'll ever forget that day, from Paula's phone call to stopping by the house to see Patty and offer what little comfort I could. I am glad that you were able to see the beautiful quilt that Patty's sister had made for you.
I will always remember the first time we actually met in person at the inaugural U.S. 500's qualifying when it was 19 degrees Fahrenheit wind chill factor and just so bloody cold, and you were trusting enough to leave my friends and me with your nice and warm wool blanket as we foolishly stayed to the end.
And the way you let us all think that you and M were married when really you were brother and sister, and how we were all so confused that year in Cleveland when we asked Mere where her husband was and she said, "Brother." HUH? No, husband. "No, brother." You had such a laugh over that and we all still do, shaking our heads at our silliness.
Cleveland just isn't the same without you there being all annoying in your Target Chip Ganassi gear. ;-)
I also want to thank you for being such a good friend over the years, sending all those cards when I had my surgery and was home for three weeks without a computer. I also treasure the fabulous racing pictures you've given me over the years. My racing room wouldn't be the same without them.
So, Jess, I just wanted to let you know that I still love you and miss you. You were a great friend, and the only person ever to call me Cutie. You always made me feel as if I really were cute.
Love and hugs,
Cutie
