PSA of the Week & People Suck

My Public Service Announcement of the Week

Do Not Walk to the Post Office (1.5 miles one way) to pick up a package when you have no friggin' idea how large the package is going to be. I thought I was going to be picking up something fairly small, so I decided to walk up there as it's 60-something degrees out there. I had my totebag to put the package in, but yeah, not so much. Stupid box was 13 x 13 x 16.5 and not all that light. It wasn't heavy for carrying to the car, but it was heavy for carrying home for 1.5 miles. I'm a bloody idiot.

Oooh, just realised I haven't finished FWG's book post yet. I should probably do that, eh?

I just read a story that made me physically sick to my stomach. It's about a teenaged girl (only 13) who killed herself after someone pretended to be a teenaged boy on MySpace, befriended her and then turned on her. The appalling part is that it was perpetrated by the mother of a former friend. Read the article for all the hideous details - it went beyond even those few details. What the bloody hell is wrong with people? I'm disgusted beyond words.

I followed your link to those sick course of events.
This is where I stopped reading: Quote starts*
She) felt this incident contributed to Megan's suicide, but she did not feel 'as guilty' because at the funeral she found out 'Megan had tried to commit suicide before.'"
*Quote ends.

This is evil.
What has become to the world?

Szelsofa - Pure evil. I was actually scared of reading the comments because so many usually seem to be hideous, but they were almost all supportive of the family. As someone pointed out she should feel MORE guilty.

There are a lot of really, really insecure women out there who live vicariously through their daughters. That's a shame. I've known a few in my days.

Of course, you see the same thing in men - guys who came "so close" to making it in sports and push their sons to the point their son blows his brains out when he fails.

ZombieSlayer - It's bad enough to do it to your own child, but to do something like this to someone else's child and then be so cavalier about their suicide? It makes me sick.

I really wish I hadn't read that, and I'm very glad I don't know any of these people.

Yeah... I heard that on the radio yesterday. Sad tale...

Agreed.

In Texas, there was a case of some mother having her daughter's rival cheerleader's mother killed so the girl would be so distraught she'd quit the team, thus insuring her own daughter would have a spot on the team.

That said, very little surprises me any more.

I saw that story myself and almost did a post on it, but these stories are getting to be commonplace. I'm no fan of MySpace, but I don't think it should be censored. I'm not quite sure how, but we need to be finding help for disturbed people like this instead of blaming their problems on the Internet as some people have a habit of doing.

Sal - Sorry to do that to you.

LL - I'm glad it's getting national coverage so that maybe these people will figure out that they suck.

ZombieSlayer - I guess I'm glad that I'm still surprised by people's behavior.

Dr. - I don't blame MySpace at all. I blame the people who use it for evil when it's meant for good, or at least, fun.

People really do suck and it seems that nowadays people have no sense of morality and of what's right or wrong.

I thought it wasn't a true story and it is. That's just sad and gut-wrenching.

Hi Kat. I'm finally back to making blog rounds again, as things have settled down as much as they are going to for a while. I also finished Little, Big last week when I was home sick.

The only post office I can reasonably walk to is the campus PO, which is not far from my office at work. I only mail packages from there, so I don't run into the problem you had. My postman usually will leave packages on the carport for us.

Dr. - Thank you. I hope yours was lovely.

Fermi - Good to have you back. My mail lady will leave packages, but the person mailing this wanted a signature. PITA!
