Reviews of Control

Yes, I know, I'm obsessed.

Here's a review of Control from the New York Times. Here's the final paragraph:

“Control” tells a sad story that is also a chronicle of success, and it declines to find an easy moral either in Joy Division’s rapid rise or in its lead singer’s early death. These are things that happened, both on the intimate stage of individual life and in the larger arena of popular culture. Mr. Corbijn, no doubt aware of what this movie will mean to devotees of post-punk melancholy, sticks to the human dimensions of the narrative rather than turning out yet another show business fable. You don’t have to know anything about Joy Division to grasp the mysterious sorrow at its heart.

I'm happy that other people are liking this movie. I understand having an obsessive love for a movie (or TV series). ;-)

I also understand obsession, but I've never heard Joy Division in my life. I feel so old right now. =/

Beth - If it makes you feel better, I'm older than you. ;-)

I need to bug Badman to bring in some Joy Division. I need to see why the two of you are heavily into that band.

Beth - Joy Division might be BEFORE your time. ;)

I can't read this until I see the movie. I'll be back then, hopefully by this next weekend, 11/10.

Before going out on Halloween I played Day of the Lords for ZS. I was putting on my makeup (my usual eye-liner punker goth look that I do for all my concerts, so I was pretty much myself for Halloween) so I couldn't really see his reaction. I'm not thinking it floated his boat too much though. I have to say he is the most open minded metal head I have ever met, so there is hope for him. Ever so slight, but there is hope.

Badman - I love a man in goth eyeliner. I didn't realise ZS was such a metalhead. I'm going to see Control again in a couple of hours, but right now I'm trying to find the best song to sway ZS. Have you thought about Glass or Disorder? I'm a firm believer in going as myself in some way for Halloween if I do dress up.

You're older than me, but spiritually, I'm an old sea hag, I swear.

Beth - You're not an old sea hag!!! You're a mother. That changes things. When you were having kids, I was out dancing. I would hazard you're more productive than I am.

ZS hasn't been to my house since that night; maybe I'll throw those two albums up on my web site I use to share music with ppl. He's interested in JD because of your (and my) avid recommendation. And he'll like (i.e. respect) JD, but he'll never "like" it. Not like we do.
